Dr. Ishrat Hussain is most commonly recognized for his tenure at the State Bank of Pakistan as its Governor. He was responsible for directing a number of developments in Pakistan’s banking sector including competency-enhancing trainings, technology driven business processes, and performance-linked promotions. His tireless efforts to improve the country’s financial sector was recognized by institutions like IMF and World Bank; and landed him the prestigious “Hilal e Imtiaz” award from the president. Before servicing the State Bank, Dr. Ishrat Hussain enjoyed a handful of positions at the World Bank including Director Poverty and Social Policy, Chief Economist for Africa and Chairperson of the World Bank's Public Sector Group. He currently serves on the boards of several renowned institutions and NGOs. Some of the other awards he possesses include Asian Banker Lifetime Achievement Award and Nishan e Imtiaz for services in the field of education.
