Nasreen, wife of Riasat Ali, is a strong, independant woman, who plays an essential role in supporting her family. She is 41 years old and married. Her household comprises of 6 members, including her two daughters and two sons. Her husband and eldest son labour at various blue collar jobs earning an extremely modest sum to add to the family's expenses. Nasreen also works from home to share her husband's responsibilities. She runs a small enterprise, making drawstrings for trousers or shalwaars. She has been running this business for over five years. Initially her earnings were limited due to an inadequate amount of resources at her disposal. She used to buy a restricted amount of materials to make drawstrings. The costs and overheads left her with limited, if any, earnings.
Around that time, Nasreen's neighbour suggested her to try and expand her business. But she was bound by her lack of appropriate working capital. Her neighbour then told her all about Akhuwat and their interest free loans. Nasreen then went ahead and applied for a loan. She received 15,000 rupees and was able to expand her work significantly. She is now looking for another loan, to help her increase her income even further. She now wishes to supply her merchandise to various retailers as well, to earn a better profit. Nasreen aspires to raise her family's living standards, and give her children a sound future ahead.
