Orya Maqbool Jan is a seasoned conservative writer and columnist. Born in Gujrat, he received his graduate degree in LLB from Quetta, Baluchistan and his Masters in Social Work from Punjab University. He joined the civil service and has worked on several prestigious posts over the years including deputy commissioner and district magistrate of three districts. He also worked as a managing director of Baluchistan Water and Sanitation Authority. His literary career is just as distinguished; he is the author of several poetry books and TV serials, not to mention his columns that regularly appear in different newspapers. He has the honor of holding the Best Columnist Award for four years through 2001-04. Orya Maqbool Jan has also worked tirelessly for the social sector. He has served with organizations like UNICEF and UNESCO for causes like CRC (Child Right Convention) and CEDAW (Convention for Elimination of Discrimination against Women).
