At the age of 45 Shazia Shakeel lives in a household of eight, that includes herself, her husband and their six children. Four of her children go to school. Her husband drives a rickshaw to provide a living for their family. However, he is only able to make around 6,000 rupees monthly. To share her husband’s burden to provide for their household, Shazia also operates a small business from her home. She runs a small convenience store where she mostly sells confectionaries like sweets, candies, jellies, chocolates and biscuits, along with some snacks like chips and crackers.
Shazia manages to earn around 5,000 rupees from her sales at the shop. Now, however, she would like to grow her business. She is currently selling a limited number of products and would like to increase the amount and variety of her confectionary and snack items. She would like to purchase more confectionaries from the wholesale market in order to appeal to more customers. She hopes that she can increase her earnings eventually and improve her household conditions thereof.
