Rani is 28 years old and divorced. She has two daughters, aged five and three, the eldest one goes to school. She lives with her parents; Zarina and Mohammed Javed in the city of Hyderabad. Her father has an eyesight problem and is currently recovering from an eye surgery. The sole source of income for their household is their confectionary shop. At present, mostly her mother, Zarina, looks after the shop. She mostly sells some sweets, candies, chocolates, biscuits and other commonly sold snacks. The current income from the shop is only 9,000 rupees per month. The amount is grossly inadequate for her to meet her basic domestic expenses.
A few months ago they took a loan worth 15,000 rupees to invest in the shop. They have just finished of paying off their first loan, and have requested for a second one. Zarina and her husband want to purchase a varied selection of products to sell at their shop. Most of their customers are children from their neighbourhood. They hope to improve their overall sales and profits and earn a better income for their family. Rani is applying for the loan on her mother's behalf as she is quite old.
